Jet Park Hotel, Snowplanet reign supreme

9 Nov 2017  By Staff Reporter

Jet Park Hotel and Snowplanet both won the supreme prize at the Westpac Auckland Business Awards 2017 for the southern and northern regions respectively.
The 222-room Jet Park Hotel and Conference Centre, which is a rated Qualmark 4½ star Environmental Gold, is located five minutes from Auckland Airport. The hotel also won the Excellence in Customer Service Delivery for the southern region.
“We have longevity with our staff which means they are familiar with our guests which is a very important factor for us,” said Jet Park general manager, Jeeva Jeeva-Nanthan.
Silverdale-based Snowplanet is New Zealand’s first and only all-year indoor ski resort.  It has been operating for 12 years and is the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere. It also won the Excellence in Customer Service Delivery for the northern region.
“The most important people in our business are our staff,” said Snowplanet customer services manager, Vicky Britton.
“Because we are an individual business – we’re not a corporate – we’ve got nobody telling us how to do things or how they should be done, therefore our team are in a great position where they have real influence on our business.”
Southern Spars won the Supreme Business Excellence Award at the Westpac Auckland Business Awards 2017 – West. The Avondale based business is the world’s largest manufacturer of superyacht and racing yacht masts.
Auckland Chamber of Commerce chief executive Michael Barnett said the winners represented the diversity of Auckland’s economy in size, management style and commitment to business excellence.
“These awards are all about celebrating businesses in our community that are making a difference. These are the employers, producers and leaders for today and tomorrow – who make Auckland the thriving centre it is,” said Barnett.
Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) partnered with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to present the awards.
ATEED’s chief executive Nick Hill congratulated the businesses recognised for standing out in their chosen fields.
“These companies are playing a key role in stimulating Auckland’s culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, which is driving long-term economic growth. Tonight’s winners have achieved excellence across a diverse range of sectors, and are role models for other businesses on their growth journey,” said Hill.
Jeff Driscoll, Westpac Regional Commercial Manager, Auckland, said the awards were about taking time out to recognise the smartest, savviest and strongest businesses in the Auckland community.
“It’s been fantastic to see the high calibre of entries this year. Auckland is the biggest cog in New Zealand’s economy and fundamentally important to our global success.”
The Westpac Auckland Business Awards Central winners will be announced on 14 November.
