Investment opportunity: Aerial adventure park comes to NZ

A high-ropes adventure attraction popular with visitors to global locations including Shanghai, Switzerland and Orlando Florida is now available in New Zealand.

Tourism entrepreneur Alex Schmid is bringing the award-winning internationally patented adventure park system from German manufacturer KristallTurm®to NZ and Australia.

He is on the hunt for sites for the modular system, which can be designed to include ziplines, tube slides, giant swings or abseiling stations, and has been installed in more than 30 locations across 15 countries and four continents.

These international sites include hotel roofs, shopping centre developments and urban green spaces as well as being incorporated into adventure parks, or ski resorts looking for year-round revenue.

The attraction can be set up on a variety of different types of sites and in different configurations.

Schmid, who is well-known to the New Zealand tourism industry due to his role in the development of Rotorua’s popular Redwoods Treewalk, is keen to talk to operators and investors about how the attraction could complement existing product portfolios.

He said: “The biggest advantage of the system is that it is highly adaptable so suitable for a wide variety of sites.

“It is brilliant for urban areas such as central business district waterfront sites, but can work equally as well at the top of a gondola where it would serve to attract additional customers to an existing product.”

Schmid, who is also the NZ representative for ecotourism and soft nature adventure attraction Fly-Line®, pointed to business events as another potential market for the product.

He said: “One of the options available as part of the system is the inclusion of an events platform at the top of the attraction making it a great option for corporate events or team building.”

Business events can also be held at the attraction for networking, corporate or team building exercises.

The design, which can range from six-pole two-level installations through to towering 18-pole four-level structures with capacity for up to 160 people per hour, can be customised to utilise the environmental features or themed to reference local culture or history.

The sole southern hemisphere location currently in operation is Melbourne Cable Park where the high rope adventure known as Climb Melbourne sits alongside Victoria’s only cable wakeboarding lakes, the Aqua Fun Park.

KristallTurm® products are suitable for all ages and safety training, climbing experience or a high level of physical fitness, is not necessary. They are designed and produced in Germany to the highest European standards.
