Destination Development Lead

Destination Fiordland is looking for an energetic and driven person to lead destination development activity in Fiordland over the next 12 months.

The position is a fixed-term, full time role based in Te Anau. We are looking for someone with a sound knowledge of the Fiordland region and businesses and a track-record in destination/community/business development and project management. This is an exciting role aimed at delivering high impact projects over a short timeframe.

The role will incorporate working with elements of the Southland Murihiku Destination Management Strategy, Destination Fiordland Strategic Plan and the Fiordland Community Board Community Futures Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop visitor experiences and value proposition for Fiordland and support of the wider regional tourism industry
  • Develop sustainability and resilience in the Fiordland tourism industry
  • Engagement with event sector

Critical skills & attributes:

  • A strong local knowledge of the Fiordland area and business community
  • A background in community and business development, preferably including destination development
  • Excellent demonstrated strategic thinking ability
  • Excellent demonstrated relationship management skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders in a professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal)
  • Excellent planning, organisation, reporting and time management skills including prioritisation and working across multiple projects at the same time
  • A proven track record of completing work in an efficient, timely and collaborative way
  • Excellent project management and leadership skills
  • The ability to take guidance and direction but to work independently as required
