Vaxications, Jabaseats, prizes & giveaways – industry swings into Super Saturday

15th October 2021 By Paul Yandall | paul@tourismticker.com | @tourismticker

RealNZ’s TSS Earnslaw will be holding a vaccination clinic on Super Saturday.

Tourism operators and agencies are supporting tomorrow’s Super Saturday and Vaxathon with competitions, prizes and freebies to help drive up the country’s vaccination rate.

In the south, RealNZ has made its TSS Earnslaw steamship attraction in Queenstown available for a vaccination clinic.

Those vaccinated on the vessel between 7.30am – 11am as part of Super Saturday, would spend their ‘observation’ time enjoying a free barista coffee, before being offered an optional tour of the vintage steamship. They would also be offered a chance to spin a wheel and win a trip to Walter Peak or one of RealNZ’s Fiordland cruises or jet boat rides.

“We wanted a creative way for us to support Super Saturday and help our community,” RealNZ chief executive Stephen England-Hall said.

“We’re looking forward to a time when we can welcome our guests back and this is also part of being able to do that.”

The oldest coal-fired, passenger-carrying steamship in the Southern Hemisphere turns 109 on Monday.

SkyCity Entertainment Group is offering every person vaccinated at its drive-through vaccination event a free ticket to the Sky Tower for use when it re-opens.

The vaccination event would take place in the SkyCity carpark from 10am – 7.30pm tomorrow.

“I want as many Aucklanders as possible to come to SkyCity, get vaccinated and get their free ticket to visit the Sky Tower,” SkyCity chief executive Michael Ahearne said.

“The sooner we are all vaccinated, the sooner we can open the doors and welcome them back again.”

The SkyCity event is being run in collaboration with Auckland Health Providers with the goal of administering one vaccine per minute for a target of 1,000 vaccines delivered.

The vaccinated could win a ‘vaxication’ thanks to WellingtonNZ.

WellingtonNZ is giving people all over the country the chance to win 20 ‘vaxication’ trips to Wellington if they get vaccinated during the next two weeks from Saturday.

Each $2500 prize includes return flights for two to the capital, two nights in a top hotel plus $500 spending money to eat, drink and shop their way around the creative capital.

WellingtonNZ marketing general manager Anna Calver said it was important to support people getting vaccinated as the country aimed for a 90%-plus vaccination rate.

“They are doing their bit so giving them a shot at winning a Wellington holiday seems highly appropriate. We can’t wait to welcome them to the city and region,” Calver said.

Competition terms and conditions can be found on WellingtonNZ.com.

Air New Zealand has filled all 300 spaces for its ‘Jabaseat’ event at Auckland Airport being held from 10am – 5pm tomorrow.

“We’re getting ready to reunite families and fly Kiwis to their holiday destinations – but first New Zealand needs to get vaccinated,” Air New Zealand chief operational integrity and safety officer Captain David Morgan said.

“The more who can get involved with Super Saturday, the better.”
