The Raetihi community has come together in a bid to generate ideas to encourage travellers to the area following the large slip that closed SH4 just south of the township.
This Saturday, Mt Ruapehu will be lit up by a circle of headlamps as 628 runners, including 37 from overseas representing 7 countries, compete in the inaugural Ruapehu Ring of Fire.
Travellers affected by the closure of the Desert Rd today are being encouraged to factor a bit more time into their journey so that they can enjoy some of the sites and activities on the alternate route.
Two milestone events in support of Ruapehu business development and Council’s goal of increasing jobs, incomes and opportunities took place at the Chateau Tongariro Hotel last week.
A new tourism entity to take over Visit Ruapehu and other central North Island regional tourism bodies has been proposed by Ruapehu District Council.
Ruapehu Mayor Don Cameron, Chief Executive Clive Manley, Councillor Kim Wheeler and Visit Ruapehu Chairperson Peter Till and CE Claire McKnight had the pleasure of supporting the official opening of Ruapehu Alpine Lifts Rangatira Express Chairlift and Snow Factory by Prime Minister Bill English.
