4th November 2021 Kāpiti Coast Airport
A drone flying near Kapiti Coast Airport is being investigated by police after it was seen by an incoming plane.
The Save Kāpiti Airport group has submitted an appeal to minister of health Andrew Little, arguing that the airport is a vital medical lifeline.
The airport is losing $1.2m annually prompting the owners to consider other options for the land, says its CEO.
The group, comprised of concerned community members, businesses, pilots, and airport users, said the airport was currently at risk.
Kāpiti Coast District Council chief executive Wayne Maxwell says the Council is solutions focussed and taking action, following the announcement by Air New Zealand to suspend flights between the Kāpiti Coast and Auckland.
